CERVIRON in the management of cervical lesions

The benefits of Cerviron® as an adjuvant treatment in cervical lesions
Cerviron® ovules is a medical device used as an adjuvant treatment in cervical lesions of mechanical origin. Cerviron® promotes healing and reepithelialisation processes and reduces the proliferation of pathogens.
It is important to note that some adult women have a predisposition to cervical wounds. Several specific factors contribute to the sensitization of the cervix, namely hormonal imbalances (decreased estrogen levels) or a constant imbalance of the vaginal microflora.
The treatment of cervicitis must be a complex one, aimed at eliminating the infection, healing the damaged epithelium, reducing bleeding and restoring the imbalance of the vaginal flora.
If an infection is not identified as the cause of cervicitis, treatment is different, depending on the clinical context and the identification of non-infectious irritants. Treatment should aim to support the balance of the vaginal microflora, eliminate pain and discomfort, and restore the epithelium of the cervical mucosa.
The primary mechanism of action of the medical device in cervical lesions is the formation of a protective barrier, by means of the bismuth subgallate in the composition. The protection barrier will favour the local dispersion of active principles and the acceleration of the healing process of the damaged epithelium.
By using the Cerviron® medical device, the healing quality is superior because the granulation tissue is formed faster, the healing time is shorter, the postoperative rest time is reduced and last but not least, the post-interventional haemorrhage is reduced.
Therapeutic action of Cerviron ® principles in cervical lesions
1. Bismuth subgallate
Bismuth subgallate is an ingredient that exhibits high haemostatic activity, acting by forming a protective film that lines the mucosa injured after surgery. Bismuth subgallate causes the damaged tissue to contract by stopping bleeding and speeding up the healing process. Being an insoluble and little absorbed salt, the bismuth subgallate forms a protective layer that allows the other components to act locally. Physical protection will reduce the risk of bacterial colonization and prevent excessive granulation tissue formation.
Cerviron® is indicated as adjuvant treatment after excisions of the cervix due to the content of bismuth subgallate, compound with astringent effect, which limits bleeding and exerts a protective effect on the vaginal mucosa.

2. Collagen
Collagen with nutritional, trophic, and hydrating properties is involved in the formation of scar tissue and connective tissue. Many collagen preparations have been developed to improve wound healing, especially of uninfected, acute, or chronic skin ulcers. The vegetable collagen in Cerviron® is designed to form a protective layer for the extracellular matrix, protects the mucosa and accelerates re-epithelization.
3. Mariagold (Calendula officinalis) extract
Marigold (Calendula Officinalis) extract contains some substances called carotenoids, which have a beneficial effect in the inflammatory phase and in the formation phase of new tissue, called granulation tissue. Marigold extract speeds healing, favouring healing and reduces inflammation and discomfort through its anti-inflammatory effect. The carotenoids and triterpenes in the marigold plant have calming properties and also help to improve microcirculation. It is well known that persistent inflammation leads to chronic wounds. Thus, an anti-inflammatory preparation should be included in the treatment regimen to prevent persistent local inflammation and related complications.
In cervical lesions, Cerviron® ovules promote healing and re-epithelialisation processes, support the effect of antibiotic treatment, and reduce the proliferation of pathogens.

4. Turmeric, Thyme, Hexylresorcinol and Goldenseal
Turmeric, Thyme, Hexylresorcinol and Goldenseal are ingredients that support the general action of reepithelization and healing by adding antibacterial effects and reducing the action of migration of other bacteria to the cervix.
